Where the hell have I been?
I'm a jerk...let me start with that. I have neglected my blog for months now. To my amazing friends and followers lets me apologize. Of course, to my mother, the most apologies go, as she has hounded me for months about this. I promise this is changing now, no more neglect.
Let me fill you in on the last few months in Sammyland. Back in the end of March, I moved out of my beach pad and found myself in middle Long Island. My hubby, my two cats and I absolutely love our new place, which is surrounded by way to much shopping. Any little thing I could every want or need is with in a few minutes of my front door. (IHOP IS ON THE CORNER..no joke) NOT to mention, I now have a parking spot right out front! BOOYOW! Any whim of a desire is met found with instant gratification, and who doesn't love that? The only thing I found problematic is the fact that all I want to do is SHOP! SHOP SHOP and MORE SHOP! URGH. I must be saved from myself.
It's ok though, I will have to learn self control... It was easy when I essentially lived in the boonies and nothing was closer than a 30 minute drive...now all I need is to walk to any number of destinations to spend the money I work all to hard for. I do love how unbelievably close I live to Target however. You guys know I love e.l.f. and Target is the capitol!!
I have a great new vanity in the new place which I am super excited over. Of course it was the very first room finished in the new place. I got my new desk and large mirror from Ikea and my small mirror from Bed, Bath and Beyond (can you say $20 off!) I spend most of my time here and it is amazing. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I couldn't ask for more.
Well, bloggies, that's it for now. I will be posting again more regularly and I promise I will not let this amount of time pass again. I love you all...And thank you for coming back. Until next time.

My Very First Blog Award!
A few months back I was
lucky enough to meet a few girls in the beauty community that totally rocked,
one of which was Tina Bowling. @tinabeana12 is an extremely
talented chick hitting this community as a triple threat: beauty, intelligence
and originality. I religiously read her blog posts and it makes me happy to hang out with my friend in the cyber
world. Thanks Tina for being one of the nicest chicks I know!

2. What was your favorite fashion
trend of 2011? It's got to be hair feathers and accessories. I love adding color to my hair and if you know me, my hair can get seriously funky at times! The feathers are right up my alley.

TCBY White Chocolate Mousse with gummy bears. MMMmm yum. It's been my favorito since 1990!
4. Favorite color: Pink
5. Middle name: Darlin (NOT DARLING!!!)

Natural, Light & Beautiful
What is more
beautiful than natural looking, clean, radiant skin? Nothing, that’s what, at
least in my opinion anyways. When I
leave the house there are a few things I don’t like to leave without, aside my
keys. My cosmetic staples include
mascara, lipstick and foundation. Even
though I love my variety of foundations, I am not always in the mood to wear
anything heavy. As a matter of fact,
the more light weight, the better. I have
compiled a list of my favorite tinted moisturizers, along with a few other
products, varying from drug store to high end.
ENJOY!
e.l.f.
Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 - $3.00
INGREDIENTS:
ACTIVE:
Benzophenone-3, Ethylhexyl Isopalmitate, Titanium Dioxide.
INACTIVE:
Water, Mineral Oil, Cyclomethicone, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Propylene Glycol,
Dimethicone, Steareth-21 Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-2, Glyceryl Stearate,
Xanthan Gum, Methylparaben, Propylparabem, Tocopherol (VE), Retinyl Acetate (VA),
Ascorbyk Palmitate (VC), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Cucumis
Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, MAY CONTAIN: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492,
CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)
I love e.l.f., let
me start by saying that. This company
provides a tremendous variety of products starting at the cost of only $1! One day I came across the e.l.f Tinted
Moisturizer while browsing through their display in Target. For only $3, I knew I had to try it. This
tinted moisturizer has 7 shades ranging from Porcelain to Espresso. I purchased two colors, Porcelain and Beige,
not knowing which would be best. Once
blended, the combination of both colors matched my skin tone perfectly. The aloe,
cucumber and vitamin E in this product makes it very moisturizing and leaves a
nice sheen to the skin but it provides very minimal coverage. You can build this product to increase
coverage if needed, but if you need a medium
coverage, you may wind up using the entire bottle! I found that this product
needed to be blended into the skin quite a bit to avoid streaks. The texture is completely decent for the
cost, but it can seem a bit watery. There is a very strong sunscreen fragrance
with this product. The smell tended to
stay with me for quite sometime throughout the day, which for me is a big
negative. If the sunscreen smell doesn’t
bother you, then this is an absolutely must try product, you can’t lose for the
cost.
Neutrogena healthy skin SPF 20 1.0fl.oz - $12.49
Active Ingredient:
Titanium Dioxide 6.6%
Inactive Ingredients:
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Talc,
Cyclohexasiloxane, C 12 15 Alkyl Benzoate, Butylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl 4
Diisostearate/Polyhydroxystearate/Sebacate, Cetyl Dimethicone, Cetyl/PEG/PPG
10/1 Dimethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Cyclomethicone, Boron Nitrate,
HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Stearoxymethicone Dimethicone
Copolymer, PPG 12/SMDI Copolymer, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E),
Pentaerythrityl Tetra Di T Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Alumina,
Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Silica, Soymilk Powder, Glycerin, Dimethicone,
Chrysanthemum Parthenium Flower Extract (Feverfew), Quaternium 90 Bentonite,
Propylene Carbonate, Silica Silylate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Copolymer,
Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid (A Preservative), Aluminum Starch,
OctenylSuccinate, Acrylates Copolymer, Magnesium Carbonate, Disodium EDTA,
Benzotriazolyl Dodecyl P Cresol, Methylisothiazolinone, Phenoxyethanol, Iron
Oxides, Fragrance
This
product is the only traditional liquid foundation that made it on my list. This
foundation comes in 12 shades ranging from Classic Ivory to Tan. Neutrogena
healthy skin has a very light, non-greasy feeling and provides a light to
medium coverage. If you need a bit more
coverage, this can be built up as well.
I love the smell of this product, there is a faint scent of citrus and
it doesn’t smell like makeup at all.
The texture is really silky and when I apply it, it doesn’t take much to
blend in to look fabulous. In my
opinion, the only draw back to this product is the packaging. Since this product is so loose, if you aren’t
careful, spills are very likely. Id’
love to see Neutrogena add a pump to this bottle to avoid waste, then, this
would be perfecto.
GARNIER Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream SPF 15 - 2.5fl.oz
- $12.99
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: OCTINOXATE 4% ( I had a hard time finding the
ingredients of this product, very strange)
This
BB Cream is the newest product on my list to hit the market. Garnier released this “Beauty Balm / Blemish
Balm” just a few months ago but it is already all the rage. BB Creams were originally formulated in
Germany but were mainly sold in Asian markets.
This product is intended to prevent acne, wrinkles, and to even out skin tone. I absolutely love everything about this BB
cream. The smell is typical of Garnier,
which is very fresh, citrusy and floral.
The cream instantly absorbs into the skin leaving it firmer and healthier
than before, providing a light coverage.
There are currently only two shades, which are Light/Medium and
Medium/Dark. The limited color variety
is a draw back, however, with amazing ability to blend and adapt, I don’t think
Garnier will be affected by it. Overall, I’d say this BB Cream is pretty
amazing.
The
Balm – Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer SPF 18 – 2.15fl.oz - $25.00
Active Ingredients: Octinoxate, Octisalate,
Avobenzone
Inactive Ingredients: Water, Cetearyl
Alcohol, Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-3 Diilsostearate, PEG-40, Hydrogenated
Castor Oil, Cyclomethicone, Cetyl Dimethicone, PEG-20, DEA-Cetyl Phosphate,
Hesyl Laurate, Phenoxyethanol, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Methlparaben,
Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Carbomer, Allantoin, Sodium
Dehydroacetate, Titanium Dioxide, C1 77891. May Contain: Iron Oxides, C1 77492,
C1 77499
This tinted
moisturizer is the most recent addition to my collection. I am a tremendously huge fan of The Balm, and
I was eager to try this product. I love
the clever names The Balm gives it’s products, which I feels sets them aside
from other companies. “Balm Shelter” has
a creamy and rich texture which blends beautifully into the skin. Even though this claims to be a tinted
moisturizer, I’d say it almost boarders on a light/ medium coverage liquid
foundation. Similar to the e.l.f. product, Balm Shelter smells like sunscreen,
BIG TIME! This is not an inexpensive
item like e.l.f., so for me, the smell is less forgivable. When I purchased this product, it was on sale
at a deep discount so I can overlook this drawback. With that being said, I don’t know that I’d
be paying full price for it.
Laura
Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 1.7fl.oz - $42.00
INGREDIENTS:
Nude: Active Ingredients: Octyl
Methoxycinnamate and Menthyl Anthranilate. Other Ingredients: Purified Water, Cetearyl
Alcohol (and) PEG-40 Castor Oil, Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate,
Cyclomethicone, DEA-Ceryl Phosphate, Hexyl Laurate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin
E Acetate), Sodium Dehydroacetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Carbomer,
Methylparaben, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C),
Propylparaben. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Mica.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer - Illuminating SPF 20
1.7fl.oz - $42
INGREDIENTS:
Bare Radiance: Octinoxate
7.50%, Avorbenzone 2.00%. Ingredients: Water, Dimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol,
Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Xylitylglucoside, PEG-40 Castor Oil, Polyglyceryl-4
Isostearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Hexyl Laurate,
Anhydroxylitol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Ascorbate,
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hydrogenated Olive Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii
(Shea Butter), XYlitol, Copper Gluconate, Allantoin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate,
Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Polysorbate 60, Phenoxyethanol, Butylene
Glycol, Tribehenin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Carbomer, Aminomethyl Propanol,
Tetrasodium EDTA, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate. (+/-): Titanium Dioxide, Iron
Oxides, Mica, Tin Oxide.
I
am honored to introduce you to the finale and the grand poobah of all tinted
moisturizers! Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer is my all time favorite; el
numero uno, the big cheese…you get the point.
Even though this is the most costly of all the products listed, this is
absolutely worth every single penny. I
switch back and forth between the original formula and the illuminating formula
depending on which look I want to achieve.
When I want a natural and dewy look, I go for the original formula. When I want a show stopping radiance along
with a dewy finish, I go for the illuminating formula. (Show stopping isn’t
always a great daytime look). If I were
to wear a base product on my face seven out of seven days in a week, five of
them I’d be wearing one of these tinted moisturizers. The original formula offers 10 shades ranging
from Porcelain to Mocha. The Illuminating formula offers 5 shades, ranging from
Bare Radiance to Bronze Radiance. Both the
original and illuminating formulas offer light but strong coverage. This product is a must have, but if you
aren’t convinced, go to Sephora and get yourself a sample!! You’ll thank me, I promise you.
All
of the above products are great for evening out skin tone, locking in moisture
and brightening your look. I know I ranted on a bit about the Laura Mercier
product (clearly my favorite) but I do favor all of these, just some more than
others. If you haven’t tried any of
these products and you’re on the market for something like it, give any one of
these a try. These are my feelings, and
in the end, only you can be the judge what’s best for you.
All
of these products were purchased with my own money and the opinions given were
my own & totally honest!

Permanent Beauty
When
I was 18 years old, like every other American teenager, I was considered an
adult. With the passing of my
“adolescence” came the realization that the world was at my fingertips. I was now able to vote, open a checking
account, and leave the country without parental consent. As great as some of these things were, there
was one thing I was waiting for. This
activity I wanted so badly that I nearly jumped out of my skin once I was able
to participate, and that was tattooing.
Where I live, here in NY, state law prohibits anyone under the age of 18
to get tattooed, even with parental consent.
My mom would have chained me in the basement if I even considered asking
her to sign my flawless skin away, regardless.
Once I turned the legal age, it was game on. For those who aren’t tattooed, those who
don’t understand it or even those who reject the idea, I wanted to bring you
into my head so maybe you could understand why I was drawn to permanent beauty.
My
first tattoo I got when I was 18 years old.
It is the Chinese symbol meaning “friendship” on my left inner
ankle. Back in the late 90’s getting
Asian writing was all the craze and I figured it would be an easy first
tattoo. It was small, simple and easily
hidden. I chose friendship because I
believe it is the basis of all relationships.
Even though I wanted the tattoo, and I was of legal age, my mother had
forbidden me to ever get one. Since I
was still living at home, I decided that I would still get the tattoo but
conceal it. This was actually the case
for my first three tattoos but I’ll get into that later. I went to a local shop with the design in my
possession, showed the artist where to stencil it and I was all ready. 15 minutes later, with a minimal amount of
pain, a bit of blood and an endorphin rush, I had gotten my first ink. I loved it and at that moment that I knew was
addicted.
This
particular piece has a lot of meaning for me incorporating my family life into
it. The eye serves as a reminder to keep my eyes open to the life around me,
and the water inside a reminder of my childhood on the boat with my father. The design on the sides was inspired by
brother, because he loved all things Celtic.
My
eighth tattoo is the floral vine that starts just above my waste and ends at my
shoulder. I have always loved flowers
and this is my way of being one. The
watercolor inspired “forget me not’s” on my shoulder are technically my eighth
tattoo but they all connect. The “forget
me not’s” is the flower of my husband’s birth month so I added them in.
My
final tattoo is on my right inner arm and it is simple script reading, “Je
T’aime Beaucoup,” which means, “I love you very much” in French. For Christmas 2010, my husband and I got identical
ink in identical spots. Instead of
buying each other gifts, this is how we decided to exchange.
Every
piece of art that I have permanently placed on my body has meaning to me, it is
a dedication to people that I love.
Tattoos are an expression of feeling, an outward statement of my love
and passion. Even though some people
might not understand the need to mark their bodies in such I way, I hope you
can understand why some might. My ink
is not just a decoration but also a living history of my life displayed on my
skin.

FACEFACTS by Lori - A Product Review
FACEFACTS
by Lori founded by Lori Hoffman in 2005. Only the finest ingredients are used,
the entire line being 100% all natural, organic and cruelty free. This ecofriendly and environmentally conscious
cosmetics company brings a product line to the forefront with most luxurious
ingredients and keeps our carbon footprint to a minimum. I
had the opportunity to sample several products from this company and I would
like to share my thoughts and feelings on them.

Refreshing Shower & Bath Gel $25.50
INGREDIENTS:
ALOE BARBADENSIS (ALOE VERA), LEAF JUICE, DECYL GLUCOSIDE,
COCAMIDOPROPYL BEAINAMIDE MEA CHLORIDE, HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSEM GLUCONOLACTONE,
SOIUM BENZOATEM CITRUS PARADISI (PINK GRAPEFRUIT) OIL, CITRUS AURANTIFOLIA
(LIME) OIL, BACKHOUSIA CITRIODORA (LEMON MYRTLE) OIL, CANANGA ODORATA (YLAND
YLANG) FLOWER OIL, ZINGIBER OFFICINATE (GINGER) ROOT OIL, VETIVERIA ZIZANLOIDES
(VERIVERT) ROOT OIL
This
gel is created with some of the most hydrating and fragrant ingredients like
Aloe Vera, citrus and flower oils. The packaging is classy and would look
lovely in any bathroom. When I first pumped
this body wash into my loofa, the incredible scent literally filled my
shower. I am a huge fan of all things
citrus and when I say that this scent is among the finest I have ever smelled,
I mean it. For a brief second I didn’t
know if I wanted to eat my loofa or wash with it! The flower undertone is also mixed in. This formula is an amazing combination of the
two. The bath gel created a rich lather
and left my skin feeling invigorated.
There was no itchy residue on my skin, which is extremely
important. I left the shower feeling squeaky
clean, moisturized, and with a lovely, light perfume to my skin. This cleanser is a gem.
FACEFACTS
Handcrafted scented soap- Pomegranate & Pear $7.50
INGREDIENTS:
SAPONIFIED OILS OF OLIVE, COCONUT, PALM AND GRAPESEED VITIS VINIFERA,
SPRING WATER, ALL NATURAL POMEGRANATE PEAR FRAGRENCE OIL, GROUND MINERAL FOR
COLOR (OXIDES).
This
gorgeous soap looks like a marbleized bar of heaven. The packaging looks as beautiful the soap
itself. The colors are comforting and
soothing, almost so much that I didn’t want to open it. Once I unpackaged it, I was happy I did. The scent of this bar soap is so delicious
that you want to take a bite right out of it.
I used this primarily as hand soap, this way I was able to use it quite
often. Unlike other popular name brand
hand soaps, this leaves your hands extremely moisturized. There was absolutely no need to use a hand
cream after using this, which for me is a first. The fragrance left on my skin after was soft
and pleasant but in no way over powering.
Like the shower and bath gel, this too is a gem. As a side note, my husband is currently
obsessed with this bar, the rants about it with every use, and I agree.

Lip liner $10.99
INGREDIENTS:
HYDROGENATED PALM OIL, TALC, HYDROGENATED COCO-GLYCERIDES, CETYL
LAURATE, BEESWAX, STEARIC ACID, STEARLY STERARATE, TOCOPHEROL, CUTYROSPERMUM
PARKII (SHEA BUTTER) EXTRACT, BISABOLOL (MAY CONTAIN CARMINE, RED IRON OXIDE,
TITANIUM DIOXIDE, BLACK IRON OXIDE, YELLOW IRON OXIDE)
| Plum, Hazelnut and Burgundy |
The
complete line of lip liners include five tones which all are incredibly
beautiful. I sampled three colors, Plum,
Hazelnut and Praline. This lip liner
packaging is a beautiful metallic burgundy that really stands out and catches
the eye. The formula was the perfect
softness to line the lips, not too soft where it’s difficult to use without
overusing the product, and not too hard where you’d have to press into the lips
to see the color. I loved this lip liner,
the color and texture is just perfect.

*COLORANTS ARE 100% NATURAL: TITANIUM DIOXIDE,
IRON OXIDES, MICA, CARMINE, BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE, MANGANESE VIOLET.
| Soft Autumn, Bronze Shimmer, Ivory Frost, Almond Cream and Plum Brandy |
The
complete line of lip stick colors currently consists of eight beautiful and
rich tones that, in my opinion, would look good on just about anyone. I choose five colors, even though each would
have been my pleasure! The colors I
received were Soft Autumn, Bronze shimmer, Ivory Frost, Almond Cream and Plum
Brandy. The box each lipstick comes in is created with 100% renewable energy, i.e.
wind power/green energy. The paperboard
is Elemental Chlorine Free and 100% recyclable.
The tube is a beautiful metallic maroon with the companies gold
insignia. “Extremely Elegant “ should be
in their slogan along with “Naturally Elegant” if you ask me! The lipstick has an extremely lovely earthy smell. When applying it, you know you are putting
the good stuff on. The color is very
pigmented and true to the color you see in the reference pictures. These lipsticks have a matte finish with a
creamy appearance. My lips were very moisturized while using this
product as well. One thing that caught
me by surprise was the longevity of the color.
This color lasted for hours and hours.
I applied this lipstick at 8:00am and the color lasted well into the
afternoon hours. I have to be honest,
not being a chemist and all, I would have thought for a lipstick to be long
wearing, you would have to use all sorts of chemicals to achieve this. LIPFACTS shows us that this isn’t the
case. This line is free of parabens,
petrolatum, mineral oil, and LEAD! Long
wear lipsticks have been known to contain high levels of lead as the FDA has
recently warned us of as of late. Overall,
I’d say this lipstick is really awesome!
I
am happy and honored to give a glowing report to this remarkable company. With
quality products and an amazing dedication to our environment, I look forward
to the future of FACEFACTS AND LIPFACTS. I am excited to see their increasing
line, which will eventually include, CHEEKFACTS, HAIRFACTS, EYEFACTS, SKINFACTS
AND BODYFACTS.
